The Department of Economics at London Business School is seeking to recruit a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow / Assistant for a PEDL (Private Enterprise Development for Low-Income Countries) funded major research project titled "The Effects of Land Mines on Development and Entrepreneurship". The post will be under the direction of Associate Professor Elias Papaioannou.

The Research Fellow / Assistant should have an experience and interest in development economics and ideally also on international trade and economic geography. The candidate should be familiar with GIS software (ArcGIS) and be able to program in python (or C). In depth knowledge of STATA and/or Matlab are also essential. Good knowledge of applied econometrics (and some experience with spatial econometric models) would be particularly beneficial. Knowledge of Portuguese (or Spanish), though not required, would be a plus.

The applicant should be willing to work on survey data as well as creatively think of interesting ways to explore spatial data. Moreover the candidate would need to regularly communicate with teams on the field, collect and organize data.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in economics or geography from a leading institution or be near completion.

The post will offer substantial opportunity to both participate in and contribute to the project and provide funding for conference attendance. Moreover, the candidate could spend some time at the Economics Department of Brown University working under the supervision of Professor Stelios Michalopoulos. Candidates should provide in their application a detailed outline of how their experience and training in development economics or/and economic geography would enable them to contribute to the research project and details of their own research, if relevant. The ideal starting date is May 2015 with some flexibility.

The post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of one and half years. Starting salary will be up to 40,000 GBP per annum including London weighting, depending upon relevant qualifications and experience.
