Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Office of Financial Research (OFR) anticipates one opening in its Research and Analysis Center in 2020 for an Associate Director of Research in its Washington, DC office. This would be a unique opportunity to help make the financial system more resilient by leading a team of researchers and analysts working on issues related to financial stability.

Who We Are: The OFR is responsible for promoting financial stability by supporting the Financial Stability Oversight Council (Council). Toward that end, the Research and Analysis Center monitors and reports on risks to financial stability, analyzes the impact of financial policies and regulations, conducts essential research on financial stability issues, develops tools to monitor financial institutions and markets, addresses data gaps, and promotes best practices in financial risk management. The Research and Analysis Center offers a unique opportunity to expand understanding of financial stability using a mix of financial data unavailable elsewhere. Research output includes, among other things, briefings and analysis for the Council and its member agencies, data monitoring products, contributions to policy development and analysis, and research papers for the OFR’s paper series and for peer-reviewed professional journals. For examples of OFR monitoring tools, reports on financial stability risks, and published research, please visit https://www.financialresearch.gov/.

The U.S. Treasury Department is an equal opportunity employer.

Job Description: Associate Directors in the OFR’s Research and Analysis Center supervise a multidisciplinary team of researchers (economists, mathematicians, and others) and financial analysts performing highly complex research focused on financial stability and systemic risks of financial institutions and financial markets, risk management practices, and macroprudential policies and their implications for financial stability. They plan and execute projects related to the OFR’s responsibilities for research and data collections. They independently produce and oversee staff production of a range of outputs (briefings, reports, publications and presentations) to a wide range of audiences.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will have excelled both in the conduct of research and the management of the research process, and should have a record of publications in high quality academic journals comparable to that required for tenure at a leading academic department. Experience acquired in academia, policy institutions, regulatory agencies, or industry is welcome. Candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to analyze complex questions, lead multiple projects, and manage relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Outstanding written and oral communications skills are essential, including the ability to address a non-technical audience. U.S. citizenship also is required. Experience doing research on issues related to financial stability or systemic risk, and/or relevant financial industry experience may be preferred. A willingness to focus future research on issues related to financial stability is required.
