Sept 30 --  The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is soliciting nominations for the 2020-2022 term of the MCC Economic Advisory Council (EAC). The EAC provides insight to sharpen MCC's analytical capacity and ensure continued expertise on relevant issues related to economic development. The EAC provides a platform for engagement with economic development and evaluation experts and contributes to MCC's mission to reduce poverty through economic growth. MCC will use the advice, recommendations, and guidance from the EAC to (i) inform threshold, compact, and concurrent regional compact development, implementation, and results measurement procedures, and (ii) assess future policy innovations and methodologies at MCC.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is a U.S. foreign assistance agency that is helping lead the fight against global poverty. Created by the U.S. Congress in January 2004, MCC has changed the conversation on how best to deliver smart U.S. foreign assistance by focusing on good policies, country ownership, and results. MCC provides time-limited grants promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, and strengthening institutions. These investments not only support stability and prosperity in partner countries but also enhance American interests. With cost-effective projects, a lean staff, and an evidence-based approach, MCC is a good investment for the American people.

An overarching purpose of the Economic Advisory Council will be to sharpen MCC’s analytical methods and capacity in support of continuing development effectiveness. It will serve as a reference group for assessing and advising on methodological directions and innovations in MCC. The EAC will focus on issues related to the analytical products and strategy used as inputs to compact and threshold program development and decision making, on learning from MCC experience about compact effectiveness and impact, and to reflect on the broader global development trends and context of MCC’s work.

The EAC's aim is to systematically take stock of the most recent trends in development economics, applied economic methods, poverty analytics, evaluation methods, and modeling, measuring, and evaluating development interventions. Convening experts in an advisory role will serve to inform MCC’s compact and threshold program development and measurement of results, shape future policy decisions and methodology, and enhance program outcomes in MCC’s partner countries.

The EAC shall consist of not more than twenty (20) individuals who are recognized experts in their field, academics, innovators, and thought leaders, representing academic organizations, independent think tanks, international development agencies, multilateral and regional development financial institutions, and foundations. Efforts will be made to include expertise from countries and regions where MCC operates, within the resource constraints of MCC to support logistic costs. Qualified individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by any individual or organization.

Does it matter if one applies or is nominated?  Who would be a good person to nominate someone who is interested?
