1) Aug 1 newsletter -- Feedback is at the core of all improvements to data.census.gov. It keeps our fingers on the pulse of data users’ needs and expectations. Feedback is critical to how the site evolves and continues to be key to improvements made to our data platform. Like other data platforms you may have heard of, data.census.gov uses the Agile Process to inform future development choices. The Agile Development cycle begins and ends with user feedback.

Just as with other changes to data.census.gov, the recent updates from the modern design refresh in June were tested, and we collected feedback from a variety of sources prior to the release.

As we collect feedback, we find issues to prioritize. Then, we share this information with the developers. The issues are then addressed by the developers and tested, before being released to the public. Feedback is once again collected, and the cycle continues.

As you continue to use data.census.gov and explore the new look-and-feel, please provide us with any comments that you have such as, does the new design help you navigate through data.census.gov in an easier, more intuitive manner? Are the changes to the site going in the right direction? All feedback can be emailed to at census.data@census.gov. We look forward to hearing from you!

2) Aug 12 -- Participants Needed for a Survey About Data.census.gov [email text]

The [Census Bureau's Center] for Behavioral Science Methods, with the assistance of RTI International, is conducting research to improve the data dissemination website data.census.gov.

We would like to talk with people who meet one or more of the following criteria:

Have recent experience in using datasets provided by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Have used American Fact Finder to analyze or download data.
Use data from data.census.gov or other statistical sites (e.g., demographic/economic data) for research or decision making.

If you know anyone who meets ANY of these criteria, we would appreciate it if you let them know of this research opportunity. The study session will last approximately 60 minutes and will take place virtually using Microsoft Teams to video conference with RTI staff. The study will begin on August 11, 2022, and conclude on September 16, 2022.

Each participant will receive $40 for participating in the study. While current federal employees are allowed to participate in off-duty time, they are not eligible to receive the incentive payment.

Please have interested participants complete a short questionnaire at https://research.rm.census.gov/jfe/form/SV_3vGixRNbURopVf8 or contact Patrick Hsieh at 312-777-5234 or yph@rti.org for further information. Please mention the code DATA WEBSITE when you call or email.

Please log in or register to answer this question.
