Jan 4 -- The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) invites the public and other Federal agencies to comment by February 5, 2024 on Form 8933, Carbon Dioxide Sequestration Credit.

Form 8933 is used to claim the carbon oxide sequestration credit. The credit is allowed for qualified carbon oxide that is captured and disposed of or captured, used, and disposed of by the taxpayer in secure geological storage. Only carbon oxide captured and disposed of or used within the United States or a U.S. possession is taken into account when figuring the credit. To reflect new provisions under PL 117-169, section 13104, we redesigned Form 8933 with new Sections A through D under Part III.

The data on Form 8933 will provide a standardized format to claim this credit to an eligible person that captures, after October 3, 2008, qualified carbon oxide at a qualified facility and physically or contractually ensures the disposal of or the use as a tertiary injectant of the qualified carbon oxide. IRS uses the information to verify the proper carbon oxide sequestration credit.
