As announced recently by Census Bureau Deputy Director Ron Jarmin, the Census Bureau earlier this month officially opened the Puerto Rico Federal Statistical Research Data Center (PR FSRDC). As with the other 33 FSRDCs around the U.S. (https://www.census.gov/about/adrm/fsrdc/locations.html), the PR FSRDC provides a secure computing environment in which qualified researchers can analyze restricted-access data under safeguards that protect respondents from disclosure risks. As the first FSRDC in a U.S. territory, the PR FSRDC opens up new opportunities for scholars in Puerto Rico to use confidential census, survey, and administrative data to conduct research to inform policy and decision-makers and advance understanding of complex economic, social, demographic, and education- and health-related issues.
