The Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago seeks applicants for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor whose research focuses on child development and public policy. A wide range of interests will be considered, including the role of genes, parents, peers, schools, institutions, and public policies in shaping children's cognitive and behavioral development and human potential. We are especially interested in candidates with domestic or international interests whose theoretical and empirical research specializes in social welfare policy or education policy on topics related to children's skill formation and the production of human capital in childhood. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in at least one of the following: the biological and environmental determinants of child development; the measurement of these phenomena; the impact of policies or interventions on child development; or the implications of research on child development for the design of social policy or interventions. Candidates from all social science disciplines engaged in the study of child development and the evaluation of programs designed to promote successful child development are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have strong quantitative skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary academic setting. Teaching and advising responsibilities will involve both doctoral students and master's students in the Harris School of Public Policy.

The position will begin in the 2014-15 academic year with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2014. Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in psychology, economics, education, sociology or a related field of the social sciences, and the potential for significant research accomplishment and distinguished teaching.
