W. K. Kellogg Chair in Community Information (with tenure)
The School of Information at the University of Michigan (UMSI) seeks an associate or full professor to fill an endowed chair given by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation and held since 2007 by Professor Daniel Atkins. The position includes funds to support scholarly activities. We seek a leader who focuses on use of information and technology to improve the quality of life for individuals and/or communities.
Our mission is to help people use information and technology to build a better world. Social computing and collaboration, health informatics, incentive-centered design for information markets and communities, and other strengths characterize the school. New and expanded programs in service learning and social engagement provide faculty and students opportunities to learn and help in disadvantaged communities. Successful candidates will be focused on ICTD (information and communication technologies for development) or on similar challenges facing those with disadvantages in the United States or globally. Applications are welcome from leaders in technology or the social sciences, especially those who work across disciplinary boundaries. Those from a wide range of research methods and forms of inquiry are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in leaders who combine design, development and deployment with study of impacts on individuals and communities.
Interest areas include but are not limited to health, inclusive design for people with disabilities, learning and education, and civic participation. Informal inquiries as well as full applications are welcome.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in computer science, information science, economics, anthropology, communication, psychology or other relevant areas.
Demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Demonstrated potential for high scholarly impact.
A strong commitment to teaching, interdisciplinary research, and cultural diversity.
Review of applications will begin November 1, 2013 and continue until the position is filled.
