Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Drexel University School of Public Health is recruiting a cluster of four Assistant/Associate professors in the broadly defined areas of urban health and health disparities research. Drexel is ranked among the best national universities and an "up-and-comer" by U.S. News & World Report. The 16th largest private university in the nation with more than 8,000 employees and 22,000 students, Drexel is made up of 10 colleges and 3 schools offering professional degrees in engineering, architecture, media arts design, business, law, medicine, nursing, and public health, among others. The University's goal to become "the most civically engaged university in America" drives its work with the City of Philadelphia and diverse community partners. Drexel is the only accredited school of public health in Philadelphia. We seek innovative scholars interested in advancing our understanding of urban health and health disparities as well as our ability to design, implement, and evaluate effective interventions and policies to improve population health and reduce health disparities in urban settings both domestically and globally. These full-time University-supported faculty appointments involve teaching and advising in doctoral, masters and undergraduate programs, conducting population health research, and contributing to the service mission of the School. Drexel and the Philadelphia area provide multiple opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and community partnerships. These faculty recruitments are part of a Drexel School of Public Health initiative to enhance interdisciplinary urban health and health disparities research bridging across Departments and across units within the University.

Applications at the Assistant or Associate Professor level will be considered in each of the four Departments:
Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Community Health and Prevention, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Health Management and Policy. Applicants should identify in their cover letter the Department or Departments that they judge to be the best fit based on their background and interests. A broad range of backgrounds, skills, and substantive areas of interest relevant to urban health and health disparities are appropriate. Sample areas of interest for each Department are noted below, but applications in other areas relevant to urban health and health disparities are welcome.

Community Health and Prevention: LGBT health, ethnic and minority health, new immigrant and global population health issues; interest in research on determinants as well as on the design and evaluation of interventions

Environmental and Occupational Health: urban environmental health broadly defined including the study of air pollution, noise, urban chemicals, biological exposures, water access, and the built environment; global environmental health; possibility of lab based research.

Epidemiology and Biostatistics: Infectious diseases and/or chronic viral infections; social epidemiology; maternal and child health; cardiovascular epidemiology; strong background and interest in methods desirable

Health Management and Policy: health insurance claims and other administrative data analysis; health services and outcomes research; economic evaluation research; health policy analysis; and/or health systems analysis related to health care access for the poor and underserved.
