The Public Policy Institute (PPI) is the focal point of public policy research, analysis and development at AARP. Founded in 1985, PPI staff engages in research, policy analysis, and frequently convenes leading policy experts for discussion of key national and state policy issues. In addition, staff provides critical research and analytical support for AARP's education and advocacy activities at the federal, state, and local levels.
PPI is seeking a Policy Analyst to support the work of the Health team to provide timely, policy-relevant analysis of major health care issues; and communicate those findings to policymakers and other stakeholders through a variety of distribution channels.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the Health team's online health data webpage and tool to ensure that data are up-to-date and accurate. Tasks include monitoring the release of data updates, extracting data from various data sources, tabulating, and uploading data to the site, and performing reference checks to ensure accuracy;
- Support the team's effort to disseminate and publicize reports, findings, and events;
- Update Health team publications, such as fact sheets and policy briefs, to reflect newly available data or information;
- Collaborate with senior Health team staff to conduct research and draft materials to support project activities, such as literature reviews, summary reports, and briefing memos; and
- Assist senior Health team staff by developing draft PowerPoint presentations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required - all majors welcome. Candidates with at least 1 year experience working in a health policy or research environment will receive preference;
- Strong interest and ability to learn how to maintain the data website, including learning about different health care data sources, how to extract, tabulate, and upload data to the website. Experience working with data is preferred but not necessary as training will be provided;
- Basic familiarity with statistical concepts and applications;
- Familiarity and experience using social media tools, such as tweeting and Facebook posts;
- Proficient in online research, Microsoft excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills;
- Comfortable working in a team based environment;
- Interest in health policy.
