The Office of Program and Strategic Analysis (OPSA) at the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (FDA/CDER) is seeking economists (PhD or ABD) for its Economics Staff. OPSA economists serve as consultants to Center's leadership, conducting economic analyses of regulatory drug program performance, industry trends, the impact of FDA policies, and other topics within FDA/CDER oversight.
Recent work includes root cause analysis of drug shortages, impact evaluation of an FDA industry guidance on drug development, and a study of industry dynamics behind orphan drug applications.
Duties:
*Ability to rigorously analyze complex problems using a variety of theoretical and empirical, methods, tools, and approaches;
*Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data;
*Ability to effectively work on projects where goals, objectives, and path forward are not clearly defined;
*Ability to successfully work on multidisciplinary teams, determine project objectives, obtain data, and perform analysis;
* Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical audience both verbally and in writing.
Required Qualifications:
* Must be a US citizen;
* Have a degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus,
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as noted above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Work experience outside of academic setting valued; project management experience a plus;
* Healthcare background not necessary;
