The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) seeks a Senior Economist to lead the MSRB's economic analysis of MSRB rulemaking under the Policy on the Use of Economic Analysis in MSRB Rulemaking (the "Policy"). The Senior Economist will engage in statistical, econometric and financial analysis projects in connection with the Policy as well as in support of MSRB market research initiatives.
Qualifications:
- PhD in economics, finance, statistics or a similar degree strongly preferred, but alternative academic credentials would be considered for the right candidate
- Minimum of six years of direct or closely related experience required
- Demonstrated experience in formulating and producing complete economic analyses, including project design and development, econometric modeling, statistical analysis, data collection and manipulation, programming, and written reports
- Experience working in regulatory environment preferred
- Published peer-reviewed economic research on topics related to financial markets or financial regulation strongly preferred, or alternative experience demonstrating ability to lead economic analysis as contemplated by the Policy
Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to influence others both directly and indirectly; must be comfortable working with a variety of people with varying skill and knowledge levels
- Sound, confident and quick judgment to take actions within scope of job duties and to seek further consultation as necessary; ability to work with minimal supervision
The MSRB offers a competitive compensation program and is located in Old Town, Alexandria -- one block from the King Street Metro.
The MSRB protects investors, state and local governments and other municipal entities, and the public interest by promoting a fair and efficient municipal securities market. The MSRB fulfills this mission by regulating the municipal securities firms, banks and municipal advisors that engage in municipal securities and advisory activities. To further protect market participants, the MSRB provides market transparency through its Electronic Municipal Market Access (EMMA®) website, the official repository for information on all municipal bonds. The MSRB also serves as an objective resource on the municipal market, conducts extensive education and outreach to market stakeholders, and provides market leadership on key issues. The MSRB is a Congressionally-chartered, self-regulatory organization governed by a 21-member board of directors that has a majority of public members, in addition to representatives of regulated entities. The MSRB is subject to oversight by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
