The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is a small nonpartisan agency that provides Congress with the objective, timely analyses needed for economic and budgetary decisions. CBO seeks economists who have a broad range of policy interests, excellent quantitative skills, strong writing ability, and an interest in working on issues of legislative interest to Congress.
Current openings for economists with PhD degrees or Master's degrees with appropriate professional experience are in health economics, public economics, labor and labor/microsimulation economics, and macroeconomics.
New listings:
Labor Economists with a strong interest in long-term implications of federal budgetary policies and a proven ability to write about such issues for nontechnical audiences. The focus of one of these positions is on writing about complex issues of long-term budgetary policy, precision, clarity, and objectivity of its written work.
Applied microeconomist to conduct research and analyses on a broad range of federal tax policy issues.
Economic analyst (master's level) with an interest in tax research to add to its revenue estimating staff.
CBO analysts address challenging substantive issues in economics and public policy while working in a collegial environment that provides opportunities for research on topics relevant to the agency's endeavors.
