Stanford's Center for International Development seeks an energetic, entrepreneurial full-time Deputy Director to work closely with the Center's Faculty Director in all aspects of administration, program development, faculty relations, and external relations. The Center's core objectives are (1) to catalyze, support, and disseminate cutting-edge research in development economics and international economics at Stanford and (2) to promote exchange and collaboration between Stanford's faculty and students and foreign academics, policymakers, and international development professionals.
The Deputy Director must possess core strengths in both research and policy areas, enabling him/her to represent the Center's academic and policy-oriented activities within Stanford and with external partners. Additionally, the Deputy Director must be entrepreneurial and have outstanding organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
This is a three year, fixed-term position.
Qualifications:
- A post-graduate degree [Minimum of a Master's] and no less than 5-7 years of relevant experience in an academic or policy-oriented environment
- A proven record of successful strategic planning, program design, implementation, fundraising, management, administration, and logistics
- Ability to think and act independently and strategically, prioritize work and delegate tasks, work under pressure, and deal effectively with ambiguity
- A superior knowledge of academic institutions, including an understanding of faculty interests and priorities as well as administrative issues
- Experience in financial management
- Knowledge of research administration
- Effective supervisory and management skills as well as ability to develop and motivate staff
- Excellent communication and negotiating skills
- Attention to detail
- Professional demeanor and sound judgment
- Proficiency with the breadth of computer tools commonly used in university environments
