Full Text of JOE Listing:

The department of Social and Decision Sciences (SDS) at Carnegie Mellon University seeks candidates interested in joining an interdisciplinary community of scholars investigating the causes and consequences of technological change and innovation. We welcome applications from economists and other quantitatively oriented social scientists conducting research in the domains of innovation, technology diffusion, the role of markets and entrepreneurship in technologically dynamic industries, research and development, and technology policy, as well as the history and management of technology. We are seeking a junior-level candidate for a tenure track position, though we also are open to applications from mid-career and more senior candidates. The appointment is expected to begin July 1, 2015.

SDS is interdisciplinary, including psychologists, economists, political scientists, mathematicians, and historians. Several have joint appointments in other units, notably the Department of Engineering and Public Policy (in CMU's engineering college) and the Heinz College of Public Policy and Information Systems. Current projects and faculty are described at the department's website: SDS has particular strengths in behavioral decision research and behavioral economics, policy analysis, industrial organization, technological change, and social dynamics. Collaboration is a hallmark of the department and the university.
