CBO is a small nonpartisan agency that provides Congress with the objective, timely analyses needed for economic and budgetary decisions. In addition to other economist positions listed previously, CBO seeks a social security economist and a macro/labor economist for the Long-Term Analysis Unit. The unit carries out CBO’s long-term modeling initiatives, providing the Congress with long-term projections of the federal budget under current law, as well as analyses of long-term trends and policy options in the areas of retirement, disability, and health care.
The social security economist should have expertise in issues relating to Social Security and will prepare CBO reports and testimonies, perform detailed analyses of proposed legislation, and construct and improve models that underlie CBO’s policy analyses.
The macro/labor economist will conduct analyses of long-term budgetary issues and assist in the development and use of CBO’s long-term microsimulation model.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in economics, experience in labor economics, a strong quantitative background, excellent writing skills, and a desire to work on issues of legislative interest to the Congress.
CBO will be interviewing at the ASSA Annual Meetings.
