Full Text of JOE Listing:
Purpose: The IRLE Postdoctoral Labor Economist will: conduct research on low-wage labor markets in the U.S., with a focus on the determinants and effects of national, state and local minimum wage policies and other labor standards; disseminate research to scholars, policy makers and the public, and supervise graduate and undergraduate student researchers.
This full-time position is a one-year appointment beginning as early as May 2015, with the possibility of an extension for up to one additional year.
Duties: Plan and conduct research on low-wage labor markets, especially the determinants and effects of minimum wage policy; work with university faculty, staff, students, community leaders and policymakers; write and disseminate research for scholarly conferences, journals and for the broader public; assist in the design of public policy relevant to California’s workforce. About half of the post-doc’s time can be spent on the researcher’s own projects and on publishing papers coming out of the post-doc.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a Doctoral degree in Economics or other relevant discipline. Good research and writing abilities are important, including strong quantitative skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently are essential.
