The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is seeking an executive for the position of Associate Director, Research Programs for the Division of Insurance and Research. The position has full accountability for the Divisions' research programs including the overall direction of the Center for Financial Research (CFR). The incumbent carries out the mission through a staff of highly technical industry experts who provide research and analysis, and conduct forums and conferences that will encourage a dialogue incorporating industry, academic and public sector perspectives. The incumbent is responsible for the direction of a staff composed of both FDIC and independent, highly-trained technical experts of economics and other senior level professionals to support the FDIC's research program; and sponsoring relevant research program lines and soliciting rigorous analysis of the issues within each of the following program lines: Deposit Insurance, Risk Measurement, Banking Performance and the Economy, Corporate Finance, and Risk Management and Policy and Regulations. He/she represents the FDIC to the research community as Director of the CFR and takes actions as necessary to ensure that the CFR is recognized in that community as a reliable source of leading-edge research on current topics of interest. The position requires the ability to manage and direct staff through knowledge of banking, finance and the financial regulatory environment; knowledge of national and international banking topics; skill in the organization, direction and coordination of complex research programs in the areas of economic policy, financial risk measurement and management, legislative affairs, the financial system and banking operations; knowledge of economic and banking research in order to contribute to the fundamental knowledge in the field; ability to coordinate activities of professional economists and to direct the activities of supporting staff; ability to communicate effectively in the conduct of high level consultation or advisory work regarding the economic aspects of programs under study; ability to make verbal presentations before audiences of bankers, regulators, scholars and researchers.
