The School of Economic Sciences (SES) within the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) and the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Heath (SGAH) at Washington State University are seeking distinguished researchers and teachers in the area of health and development economics. Applications are invited for two full-time, 9-month tenure-track positions: one Assistant or Associate Professor, and one Associate or Full Professor, to begin August 16, 2016, or as negotiated at the Pullman, Washington campus. Successful applicants will develop internationally-recognized research and teaching programs focused on the economics of health and economic development.
SES and SGAH have developed a strong foundation for research collaboration among health scientists and economists, with broad international connections and ongoing research programs in East and West Africa, Latin America, and elsewhere. Economic analysis is crucial to the goals of both schools and is central to the ongoing collaborative research programs. With these positions, WSU will strengthen its commitment to integrated economics and policy studies focusing on global health and economic development in the two Schools. Successful candidates will work with both Schools’ Directors, with primary reporting to a single Director. This position is considered primarily research with focused teaching responsibilities. Opportunities for emphasis lie primarily around the intersection of human and animal health and economic development, with priority on low-income communities.
Teaching responsibilities include one to two economics courses per year in the successful applicant’s area of expertise in the SES and the SGAH. Incumbents will disseminate information by publishing results in appropriate scientific journals and peer-reviewed journals. Persons in these positions will cooperate with internal and external research colleagues to identify research priorities, conduct collaborative projects, and disseminate results. Other duties include securing extramural funds to support the program from state, regional and national grant sources, as well as the global donor community; mentoring and advising graduate students; and participating, as appropriate in committees, instruction, and other activities of the SES, SGAH, and WSU. Required: Earned Ph.D. in Economics or a related discipline at date of hire, to focus on economics at the intersection of human and animal health and economic development.
Screening of application materials begins October 15, 2015; continues until filled. Contact Dr. Jonathan Yoder, Search Committee Chair, at yoder@wsu.edu, 509-335-8596 with questions.
