The Arizona State University School of Public Affairs (SPA) invites applications for an economics and public policy faculty position at the Assistant level. The School seeks a scholar with a strong background in micro-economics and public policy with a commitment to policy-relevant research. We welcome applicants working in fields such as labor, health, and education economics. Scholars who could complement our strengths in urban economics, science and technology, environmental economics, and public finance will also be considered. Applicants must demonstrate teaching interests in core areas of public policy, and should be willing to teach a doctoral course on public policy and economics.

SPA, the #16 ranked program overall in public policy and administration and #2 in urban policy and management, has embarked upon a period of unprecedented growth as a strategically important element in ASU’s emergence as a “New American University.” SPA is home to a number of research centers that focus on areas such as science and technology policy, urban innovation, organizational design, environmental economics and policy informatics. SPA faculty engage in highly productive research agendas and attract external funding from numerous national and international scientific agencies, foundations, and the private sector.

SPA offers Bachelor degrees in Public Service and Public Policy and Urban and Metropolitan Studies; the Master of Public Administration; the Master of Public Policy; and the Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy.

Required Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Public Policy, Economics or related field at the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate strong research and teaching interests in micro-economics and public policy including a demonstrable record or promise of high quality research in leading publications and excellent teaching. Faculty members are expected to pursue external funding to support research; evidence of ability to do this should be highlighted.

Desired Qualifications: Most important, we seek a candidate with demonstrated excellence and strong potential in research that will contribute to and enhance the School’s national and international reputation and a commitment to teaching in a diverse environment. This nine-month position begins August 2016.
