The FDA anticipates openings for economists at the GS-12 to GS-13 level on the Economics Staff, Office of Planning in the Office of the Commissioner. Our staff has the responsibility for economic analyses of human and animal drugs, medical and radiological devices, biological products, tobacco, and food safety and nutrition. This position requires U.S. citizenship. Our offices are located just outside of Washington DC. We offer workplace flexibilities and a family-friendly environment.
Economists on our staff evaluate the benefits and costs of FDA regulations; perform quantitative, statistical, and risk analyses; and conduct mission-oriented independent research. This position requires creativity, the ability to make use of scarce data, an interest in public health policy, and the ability to explain basic and advanced economic concepts to non-economists.
