Primary Job Description:
We are seeking a PhD Economists to join eBay’s team of data scientists. Economists at eBay use a data-driven approach to create insights and products that shape one of the largest online marketplaces in the world serving 100's of millions of customers. The role requires working with a variety of methodologies, including experimental design and analysis, econometrics and microeconomic theory.

Job Responsibilities:
Topics come from a variety of sources, including senior executives, product managers and engineers. Regardless of the source, our work shares an important feature: it is performed in collaboration with one or more business partners, either as consumers or even as active collaborators. Projects should result in internal learnings and action, and (where appropriate) external publication. Successful economists will excel on the areas of problem identification, data skills, communication, and teamwork.

Job Requirements:
• PhD in economics or related degree from a top graduate school
• Experience in data analysis and econometrics (including R and STATA)
• Advanced econometric experience
• Expertise in applied microeconomic theory
• Ability to explain work in non-technical terms to key stakeholders
• Experience with big data tools (especially SQL, Hadoop) or in e-commerce/technology/consulting a plus
