The College of Business at Cornell University invites applications from qualified individuals for a tenure track faculty position in family business, beginning July 2017. Rank is open; salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Responsibilities of the position include: (1) high quality published and ongoing academic research related to family business in basic areas like Accounting, Applied Economics and Policy, Finance, Management and Organizations, Marketing and Communication, Operations, Technology and Information Management, or Strategy and Business Economics; (2) Teaching basic and advanced courses and in executive education appropriate to the theme of family business and/or in the faculty member's base discipline, and advising students, including prospectively Ph.D. candidates; and (3) Service to the School, College and University.

The appointment may be made in any of the College's three AACSB-accredited Schools. The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson) offers MBA, Accelerated MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD programs. Courses and programs are taught at Cornell's main Ithaca campus, the Cornell Tech campus in New York City, and other locations across the globe. The School of Hotel Administration (SHA) is the world's premier School in hospitality management, offering bachelor's through PhD degrees. SHA also hosts the University's real estate programs. Many of the alumni and the students of SHA own or manage family run businesses. . The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is a top-ranked undergraduate business program and home to premier graduate (MPS, MS and PhD) programs in applied economics, with emphases in environmental, energy and resource economics, food and agricultural economics, international and development economics, as well as the core management disciplines. The School that best fits the successful candidate's research, teaching and public engagement interests will serve as the tenure home.

Johnson also serves as home to the Smith Family Business Initiative (SFBI) ((https://www.johnson.cornell.edu/FamilyBusiness), which provides education, networking, and research for family business owners, successors, and students. Founded in 2014 through a gift from John and Dyan Smith, the SFBI is dedicated to supporting and strengthening the network of businesses that are family and privately owned. This faculty position will work collaboratively with the SFBI Executive Director to guide the research and educational activities of the SFBI, as well as actively promote the work of the SFBI to alumni, stakeholders, current and prospective students, and the general public.

Job Qualifications:

All candidates must have a PhD at the time of application. Those who have graduated in the last two years must also provide letters of recommendation from their references. Preferred candidates will demonstrate high standards of accomplishment in applied or theoretical research in family business, teaching, and service, complementing and extending the strengths of the College of Business's current faculty and its vital and collegial community of scholars and practitioners.
