Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Faculty of Economics of Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) jointly seek qualified candidates to fill a position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
We expect the candidate to have a strong interest in teaching and research in microeconomics. The focus should be on empirical research on factor allocation and productivity. A solid microeconometric background, interest in labor economics, and a desire to apply economic research to policy questions are appreciated.
The Assistant Professorship serves to deepen the collaboration between the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH). The IWH is one of the six economic research institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany (www.iwh-halle.de). It focuses on research in structural change and productivity, finance, and macroeconomics. The IWH plays a central role within CompNet, which is a network of distinguished scholars from world-leading academic institutions and international organisations studying productivity and competitiveness at the firm-level. The Assistant Professorship is associated with the Department of Structural Change and Productivity at IWH and contributes to the research areas in economics at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena.
The requirements are: the potential for successful publications in international journals, ideally an existing network of international research collaborations, and the duration of the PhD project and employment together should not exceed six years. It is expected that the candidate will teach in the Faculty’s Bachelor and Masters Programmes. Knowledge of the German language is not a requirement for the position.
In legal terms, there will be an individual selection process carried out for the position hereby announced. The appointee is assigned the status of an assistant professor at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena according to section 78 (8) Thuringian Higher Education Act. The professorship comes along with an employment at the IWH. The employment relationship will initially be limited to three years, and may be extended by a further three years given a positive evaluation.
Applications from disabled persons will be given priority in the case of equal suitability, ability and professional expertise. The Friedrich-Schiller-University and the IWH aim to increase the proportion of women in scientific positions and specifically encourage qualified women to apply.
