Indiana University is searching for the first full-time Director of an initiative that analyzes how public policies affect the health of the US manufacturing sector, including reforms that would nurture the health of the sector. The Director will be responsible for building the new initiative, overseeing projects, fundraising, coordinating conferences, leading the advisory board, and serving as external spokesperson for the initiative. The director will report to the Dean of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) and will be advised by a steering committee of experienced advisors. Faculty and students will be available to provide project support.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of the manufacturing sector, strong oral and written communication skills, and a graduate-level degree in business, economics, engineering, science, law and/or public affairs. Candidates with experience in both industry and government are preferred. The successful job candidate will be based geographically in Indianapolis or Bloomington, depending on the preferences of the candidate. Teaching a course in manufacturing and public policy is also possible.

Based at the school with the #1 ranked public affairs program in the country, the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, the Manufacturing Policy Initiative (MPI) serves as a source for nonpartisan, state-of-the-art information, analysis, and recommendations on public policy issues affecting U.S. manufacturing such as workforce education, international trade, sustainable manufacturing, innovation and advanced manufacturing, national security, tax policy, regulatory reform, job and earnings growth, and the significance of globalization. The MPI Director has a unique opportunity to shape strategies that will study and pinpoint best practices and solutions that strengthen manufacturing.
