The Division of Price and Index Number Research (DPINR) at the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has a vacancy for a research associate. This Division is in the Office of Price and Living Conditions where the Consumer Price Index, the Consumer Expenditure Survey, the Producer Price Index and the International Price Index programs are housed. The applicant would work with senior economists in conducting various empirical research projects. This work involves assisting with database management, the design of the statistical or econometric methods, writing code to implement these methods, writing code to both report and visualize results. The ideal candidate would have a master’s degree and have experience in empirical research.
DPINR has 12 PhD economists across a range of different fields. DPINR Economists evenly split their time between (1) engaging in self-directed academic research, and (2) working on the Consumer/Import-Export/Producer Price Indexes and the Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE) issues.
