Hitotsubashi University is a national research university located in Tokyo, embracing every field of the social sciences with particular emphasis on economics and commerce, and is known for its world-class research excellence.
The University established the Hitotsubashi Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) in 2014 with the aim of strengthening a worldwide research network of social sciences and serving as a hub of the research network. The Research Center for Health Policy and Economics is part of HIAS and is progressing research in key areas of health economics to advance national and international health policies. The Center currently hosts nine researchers with diverse disciplines in the social sciences for health related research, including economics, management, sociology and public health.
The Research Center for Health Policy and Economics is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellows, who will initially and primarily work on research in the following topics:
• Healthcare financing and management
• Determinants of mental and physical health
• Health behavior and public health policy
• Economic evaluations of health and care technologies
• Global health
Postdoctoral Research Fellows will conduct research in the above key areas, participating existing projects as well as developing new research programs. Their roles in the Center are:
1. To contribute or lead health economic research for publications in high-impact journals
2. To contribute or lead to obtain external research funding
3. To help build and strengthen the Center’s collaborative research network with national and international institutions
In order to fulfil their roles, applicants are expected to have the following skills and experiences:
1. Doctoral research in relevant fields in the social sciences
2. Excellent quantitative skills to analyze large-scale data (applied statistics and/or micro-econometrics) for health related research
3. Skills to write up and publish research outcomes in high impact journals; skills to develop and write up competitive research proposals for external research funding
4. Ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently
5. It is desirable (but is not strictly required) that applicants have published their works in peer reviewed journals and/or have obtained external research funding
