The South Asia Regional Data Team of the World Bank’s Poverty and Equity Global Practice invites applications for a Poverty Economist Consultant. The position is for 150 days, starting around April 1, 2017, and requires strong econometric and writing skills, as well as in-depth experience using STATA to analyze household surveys. The consultant will be primarily work on two research projects. The first involves better understanding the relationship between nutrition, calories consumed, and poverty. This will require imputing a consumption measure into DHS surveys for Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. The second project involves using ancillary data to estimate recent trends in poverty in India. The consultancy is expected to last through December 2017. The ideal candidate can work in Washington DC and is an excellent programmer with experience in econometric modelling. Familiarity with data from relevant countries, or the DHS surveys, is a plus. He or she is either a recent PhD, or a graduating PhD student with advisor approval, from a highly ranked department in economics, statistics, or related field.
