The Centre for Research in International Economics (CREI) is a research institute sponsored by the Generalitat de Catalunya and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). CREI is a non-profit institution, created in November 1994 by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

CREI is located in UPF’s Ciutadella campus in Barcelona and hosts over 30 staff including researchers, research assistants and administration. CREI’s research focuses on international economics and macroeconomics, understood in a broad sense, i.e. encompassing growth, business cycles, monetary economics, macroeconometrics, trade and economic geography, etc. CREI has a very active programme of seminars and workshops, and regularly hosts numerous visiting researchers.

CREI’s objective is to promote research subject to the highest standards of academic scholarship. Always with that research dimension in mind, CREI wants to be a source for the dissemination of new ideas. CREI is an academic unit of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Barcelona GSE). CREI collaborates with the Barcelona GSE and the Department of Economics and Business at UPF on many research and teaching activities, including the supervision of PhD students.

CREI’s ultimate mission is to contribute to a better understanding, based on rigorous study, of the economic forces that shape modern societies, in order to improve the design of policies and institutions, with the aim of promoting economic growth and social welfare.

CREI belongs to CERCA (Centres de Recerca de Catalunya), the network of public research centres in Catalonia.

Candidate Profile:
CREI is seeking applicants who are internationally recognized scholars in one or more of the research areas covered by CREI, with an active and ambitious research programme of his or her own, and with the leadership qualities needed to manage a small but dynamic and ambitious research institution.

CREI’s Director will work with the support of a Managing Director and a Grant Manager, in order to ensure efficient operational and financial management of all activities, always with the highest standards of integrity, transparency and compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Selection Process:
CERCA is delegated to manage the entire selection process. Suitable candidates will be identified by an ad hoc committee formed by members of CREI Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). This committee will draw up a short list of candidates who may be invited to visit CREI for a research seminar and meetings with researchers and Governing Board members.

A commission of three Governing Board members will then make a final recommendation regarding the most suitable candidate to all members of the Governing Board, which will be responsible for the final appointment.
