The OCC’s Policy Analysis Division (PAD), located in Washington D.C., has openings for financial economists and senior financial economists. The OCC charters, regulates, and supervises national banks, federal branches, and agencies of foreign banks, and federal savings associations. Financial economists in PAD use their knowledge of economic theory and econometric methods to identify and analyze current and likely future key trends in bank performance, financial markets, and laws and regulations relevant to the development and implementation of agency policies that contribute to effective supervision by the OCC. Division economists conduct longer term research projects as well as shorter term analyses that respond to requests by senior management and various internal and external audiences, participate on agency working groups or task forces, and conduct the economic impact analyses required by various rulemakings.
Requirements:
At the junior level, candidates will have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of finance/financial economic theories, statistics, quantitative methods and econometric techniques, the valuation of financial instruments and analysis of their risks, financial markets, or financial institutions. Successful candidates typically hold a Ph.D. or have a firm expectation of completing their Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field, or have an equivalent combination of education and industry experience. At the senior level, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated expertise as evidenced by either a substantial publication record, significant financial industry experience, or expertise in financial market regulation and policy development.
