Faculty Vacancy Announcement:
The Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College invites nominations and applications for appointment as the Austin W. Marxe Chair in International Economics and Governance. The position has tenure or accelerated tenure-track status at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending on qualifications. The endowed position comes with a reduced teaching load, discretionary research funds, and an annual stipend.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarship in an area of international economics and policy that merits appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The search committee will consider candidates who have made their careers in the academy, as well as those who have worked at senior levels of government, intergovernmental organizations, and policy research institutions. Candidates must have a doctorate in economics or a closely related discipline. A strong record of publications with evidence of ongoing research excellence is essential.

The candidate will primarily teach courses in international economics, trade policy, international development and global economic governance for the School's new Master of International Affairs (MIA) program, launched in Fall 2017. Additionally, the candidate may be asked to teach courses in the School's Master of Public Administration (MPA) program in the areas of economics of public policy, policy analysis and evaluation, and/or research and analysis.

The successful candidate will be expected to raise the visibility of the School in the area of global economic policy. The Chair will help shape the strategic direction of the MIA degree and advise students. She/he will share responsibility for committee and School assignments, including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Baruch College is a public, urban institution with an enrollment of approximately 18,400 students. It is one of 23 CUNY colleges. The Marxe School delivers undergraduate and graduate degrees in public policy and administration. The college houses a wide range of cutting-edge policy and research programs including a New York Federal Statistical Research Data Center (NYRDC) facility, the Baruch Survey Research Center, the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research, and the Center for Nonprofit Strategy and Management. Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a record of policy-relevant scholarship in an area of international economics, development economics or a closely related field that merits appointment at the rank of either Professor or Associate Professor. Candidates should have a substantial and demonstrated research program and high promise for external funding. Candidates must have a doctorate in economics or a related discipline (e.g. public policy or political science with a concentration in international political economy). Also required are the ability to teach successfully and a strong interest in shaping the MIA program as a member of an interdisciplinary faculty. Experience teaching in international or public affairs programs is desirable.
