Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Bank of England launched an exciting One Bank Research Agenda in 2015. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead its delivery, develop and drive forward world-class research to support policy making, and enhance the Bank’s position externally as an intellectual leader in the areas of its responsibilities.
Reporting directly to the Chief Economist, the Head of Research has responsibility for shaping and coordinating research priorities, capabilities and strategies across the Bank as a whole; for leading the Bank’s central Research Hub; and for driving forward their own high-quality cutting-edge research on key topics under the One Bank Research Agenda.
You will play an integral role in pursuing the One Bank Research Agenda which spans monetary, macroprudential and microprudential policy and the interactions among them, helping the Bank to become a world leader in each of these areas. You will foster and provide leadership to a community of researchers across the Bank, while further strengthening collaborative links with centres of external expertise, including academia and other policy institutions. You will strive to further enhance the policy impact and external influence of the Bank’s research, thinking imaginatively about outlets and positioning.
The Head of Research will also lead the Research Hub and deliver its secondment model, with responsibility for a multi-million pound budget. The Research Hub has a core of around 10 permanent researchers, with the Head of Research having direct line management responsibility for these individuals. But the Hub also provides an environment into which about 20 Bank staff at any one time can be temporarily seconded from across the organisation to pursue collaborative research projects on key central bank policy issues.
You must have a proven track record from previous roles of leading key strategic research or policy initiatives, delivering high-quality policy-relevant research, and managing research projects. First-rate leadership skills are also essential, along with an ability to set a vision for Bank-wide research and lead and motivate a large, diverse, multinational group of researchers – both permanent members of the Research Hub and secondees.
This role is open to job shares, flexible and part time working patterns.
