The Caribbean Country Department (CCB) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is seeking a highly-motivated individual, with well validated leadership and analytical credentials, to fill the position of Regional Economic Advisor (REA) in Washington D.C. As a part of the Vice-Presidency for Countries, the department’s main functions are to monitor macroeconomic developments in the region, lead the policy dialogue with borrowing countries, evaluate the Bank’s financial exposure in the region and formulate policy alternatives to better address the country’s development challenges.

The Team’s Mission:

The CCB department has a Country Office in each of the 6 borrowing countries we serve: Barbados, The Bahamas, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago. The department is responsible for the promotion and development of Bank country/regional strategies and programming. The Department also leads and maintains the relations of the Bank with member countries; supports the processing, negotiation and implementation of regional and country-specific projects and programs; and promotes and coordinates the use of funds administered by the Bank.

What You’ll Do:
•Assess and produce groundbreaking research to advise what issues IDB should pursue in its research agenda, strategy formulation and operational program.
•Guide operation design through the inclusion of best practices, empirical evidence and economic theory.
•Help the IDB gain a broader view of economic issues in order to promote innovation, creative thinking and intellectual curiosity.
•Build networks with international organizations, academic institutions, government officials and professional bodies to exchange information, promote research initiatives and expand our influence.
•Lead economic policy dialogue and broad discussions on substantive development issues with senior policymakers, influencing policy discussion through advanced knowledge of sector and/or economic issues.
•Technically responsible for a variety of documents such as the Country Development Challenges (CDC), the Independent Assessment of Macroeconomic Conditions (IAMC), Quarterly Bulletins, and other policy and research documents.
•Manage a team of economists to perform advanced economic analysis in the 6 countries, using state of the art techniques.
•Develop and oversee a knowledge program, and ensure output is of high quality and is properly aligned to management objectives.
•Develop plans for the effective dissemination of our analytical research, identifying target audiences and appropriate communication media to reinforce IDB positioning in the region.
•Work collaboratively with colleagues within the organization, to coordinate the economic programs and initiatives of the IDB so that they will be unified and have strategic development impact.
•Identify needs and interests of clients and donors and bring those into alignment with the IDB’s economic strategy and goals.
•Provide advice to the General Manager on economic and other strategic matters both external and internal to the Bank.
•Act as a member of the Department’s Management Team.
•Engage with clients to reduce the data deficit in the Caribbean.

What You’ll Need:
•Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependent;
•Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group;
•Education: Ph. D in Economics.
•Experience: At least 10 years of senior level experience, either in private or public institution, in high level economic policy formulation. At least 5 years should be in Latin America or the Caribbean. Candidate should have experience supervising people, directly and remotely. We encourage candidates with experience in the Caribbean to apply.
•Publications: Solid publications track record in peer reviewed journals or books.
•Language: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Oral and written proficiency in a second Bank language (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is also required.
•Travel: Frequent travels are expected.
