The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) is seeking a candidate for the position of Regional Economist. The successful candidate will have a strong background in economics with the ability to develop research methodologies, conduct economic analysis, and prepare and deliver research findings. Applicant must be able to collect and analyze socioeconomic data, produce written reports and presentations, respond to requests for assistance from the public, maintain regional data sets, and develop and prepare programs and policies to aid decision makers on issues of regional importance. Successful candidate will monitor forecasts of regional population, housing, and economic trends and apply advanced modeling tools and analytical methods to real-world applications in a region with a variety of social, environmental, and economic challenges and opportunities. The position requires strong communication skills (written and oral), data mining and collection skills, and research and analytical skills. Master’s degree in Economics, Planning or related field; Bachelor’s degree with relevant professional experience will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
