The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Director in its Office of Research. The Assistant Director leads the Office of Research, which is responsible for researching, analyzing, and reporting on markets for consumer financial products and services; integrating economic analysis and decision science into the Bureau’s policy making process; analyzing the costs, benefits, and impacts of proposed and final regulations; and leading the ex post assessment of significant rules promulgated by the Bureau. The Office also provides analytical support for complex supervisory and enforcement matters.

We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience in a senior or leadership position designing, directing and leading a program in which PhD researchers produce technical economic research about consumers, households, or financial markets and the costs and benefits of contemplated policy or business decisions. Candidates should be able to demonstrate mastery of one or more applied microeconomic fields and demonstrated experience, through publication in peer-reviewed journals or similar indica of quality, in conducting complex qualitative and quantitative research. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and specifically be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate research findings and analyses to leadership and other lay audiences.
