Banca d’Italia, the Italian central bank, will be awarding four research fellowships for young economists with experience in applied economic research and its policy implications in the following fields:
A. 1 research fellowship – Macroeconomics; Monetary Economics; Monetary Policy; Financial and Credit Markets and the Macroeconomy.
B. 1 research fellowship - Financial Economics; Banks; Financial Institutions and Markets; Financial Stability; Macroprudential Policy.
C. 1 research fellowship - International Economics and Finance; Trade.
D. 1 research fellowship - Public Economics and Fiscal Policy; Applied Microeconomic Analysis; Economic Growth; Law and Economics.
The fellowships will be with the Bank’s Directorate General for Economics, Statistics and Research in Rome; they are for a term of twelve months, renewable for a further twelve. Winners will be asked to develop a research project of their own.
Winners may also be asked to contribute to policy analysis and to advise senior management on issues within their field of expertise that are of importance to the Bank.
The Bank offers a stimulating working environment and fellows will have the opportunity to participate in high-level academic workshops and seminars and to interact with policymakers. Winners of a fellowship will receive a monthly stipend of € 4,000 before tax.
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D or equivalent or be nearing completion, i.e. they have finished their examinations (or other preparatory activities) and are only awaiting discussion of their thesis. Applicants must have fluent written and spoken English.
Candidates may choose to be interviewed either in Rome, at the Bank’s head office (from 9 to 13 December 2019), in Rotterdam, during the European Job Market for Economists (18 - 19 December 2019), or in San Diego, California, USA, during the annual meeting of the American Economic Association, (from 3 to 6 January 2020).
Candidates’ research projects will be assessed by a committee of experts. Those who are judged to have completed their work successfully may be invited to participate in a selection procedure for the recruitment of permanent employees in the management career stream. Such candidates must meet the requirements for recruitment by the Bank (be a citizen of Italy or of another EU country or equivalent, hold a university degree recognized in Italy, and enjoy full political rights). They must also have a good knowledge of Italian, which will be assessed during the selection procedure.
