The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology (DAERS) in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Agribusiness/Experimental Economics. The planned start date for the position is August 2020. This position is a 9-month tenure-track, academic-year appointment at the rank of assistant professor. The allocation of effort of this position is 40% teaching and 60% research.
Requirements: Ph.D. in applied economics, agribusiness, agricultural economics, marketing, economics, business economics, international trade, public policy, finance, or a closely related field at the time employment begins. Successful candidates are expected to have demonstrated excellence (or the potential for excellence) in research and have a dedicated interest in high quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Current assistant professors also are encouraged to apply, and negotiations over shortened tenure and promotion schedules are possible for these candidates.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have opportunities to shape the future direction of the agribusiness/experimental economics program in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at Auburn University though teaching, advisement, research, curriculum design, outreach to the business community and other stakeholders, and programmatic leadership. The department also desires that the candidate play a leadership role in building and administering an experimental economics laboratory, for which there will be institutional support. In addition to contributing to department, college, and university service activities, responsibilities include:
Teaching: The teaching load for this position is two to three courses per academic year. The successful candidate will ideally teach a training course that prepares the department’s undergraduate students for National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) competition. Another one or two courses the incumbent is expected to teach can be Agricultural Business Management, Farm Management, a graduate level course in experimental economics, or a new course designed by the incumbent that fits the teaching needs of the department. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to the department’s teaching programs through teaching, mentoring, and directing theses and research projects.
Research: The incumbent is expected to develop an active, innovative, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program focused on experimental economics. The research program is expected to generate publications in leading field journals. The focused research area can be one of the following: food marketing, market structure and competition, consumer behavior, demand and price analysis, agribusiness, as well as environmental and resource economics. Other possible areas of research interest include futures and options, international trade, and some similar areas that serve college priorities. Collaboration with other faculty and professionals in related fields is strongly encouraged. This position will contribute to the University and College's strategic visions through excellence in graduate education, innovative partnerships, community engagement, entrepreneurship, and world-class research efforts.
