Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Research Scientist will be actively involved in examining causes and consequences of firearm violence and injury and evaluating the implementation and effectiveness of public policy for firearm violence and injury prevention. This person has responsibility for developing research proposals; leading/managing projects; providing expertise in advanced methodologic study design and data collection for research projects; substantial contributions to creation of instruments and surveys; drafting manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; and supervision of graduate students and more junior staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree (in quantitative health/social sciences/related field). Minimum 4 years of increasingly responsible and relevant experience in writing grant proposals and scientific papers, study design conceptualization, conducting research and researching data management and analysis, preferably in firearm violence or other injury research.
Desired Qualifications
PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g., ScD) highly desired (in quantitative health, social sciences, or related field). 3-4 years’ experience in firearm violence research and/or firearm policy development and evaluation; expertise in deterministic and probabilistic linkages of large databases; proficiency with relational database, data linkage, and statistical software including one (and preferably several) of the following: REDCap, SQL, LinkPlus, LinkKing, LinkSolv, Stata, R, SPSS, SAS, ArcGIS, Microsoft Access, NVivo, Atlas.ti; experience in leading academic research projects
