Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP) of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) seeks a Financial Economist. All candidates with an interest in applied microeconomics are encouraged to apply. A background in banking or consumer-finance research is not required.
DCP has a wide variety of responsibilities related to maintaining stability and public confidence in the nation’s financial system. To that end, DCP engages in research on a broad set of topics, including consumer and household financial decision making, consumer financial product markets (including the impacts of technological innovation in these markets), community development, economic inclusion, consumer protection, and fair lending.
Economists in DCP conduct research to inform discussion of regulatory policy initiatives, provide statistical analysis of examination data to help evaluate whether FDIC-supervised institutions are in compliance with consumer protection laws, and participate in the design and analysis of regularly conducted household- and bank-level national surveys. DCP economists are also expected to conduct independent research for presentation at professional conferences and publication in peer-reviewed academic journals.
DCP has an active consumer research seminar series, and economists have access to a wide range of proprietary data. In addition, the FDIC holds an annual consumer research symposium, details of which may be found here: http://www.fdic.gov/consumersymposium.
The FDIC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
