Position Description:
A new research foundation in Boston, MA produces and disseminates path-breaking empirical research, conducts large-scale social experiments, and facilitates programs to both understand and help increase opportunity in America among those who are disadvantaged.
We are seeking an insatiably intellectually curious Senior Data Manager who is passionate about using big data, social experiments, and other cutting-edge tools to answer research questions that have the potential to dramatically increase opportunity in America. The ideal candidate will primarily work in Stata but will use other languages including R, Python, and Matlab. Individuals who are deeply disturbed by racial inequality and want to confront it by working with large, complex data sets, designing bold social experiments using insights from the data, and becoming a subject matter expert on race in America are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
• Working with large primary and secondary data sources such as experimental and survey data
or data sets such as the Current Population Survey to convincingly answer research questions
about race in America
• Articulating findings and working with researchers to adjust specifications, iterate, and code as
preliminary results are discovered
• Evaluating the potential of social experiments motivated by the data
• Mentoring programmers and leading small research teams
Position Requirements:
• Master’s or Ph D. (preferred) degree with a strong academic record in economics, computer
science, mathematics, statistics, public policy, or related field
• A demonstrated and sustained passion for reducing racial inequality in America
• 3-5 years of programming experience in a professional or academic environment
• Experience working with large, unprocessed, administrative and survey datasets
• Ability to describe technical problems and solutions to non-technical audiences
• Strong organizational and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work with others.
• Programming experience using Stata, Python, R, or similar language
We offer foundation employees a uniquely stimulating, team-oriented, and culturally diverse work environment, competitive salaries, and a comprehensive benefits package.
