Stripe (stripe.com) is the best software platform for running an internet business. We handle hundreds of billions of dollars every year for millions of businesses around the world. With all this data, we’re looking for a talented economist to conduct research on entrepreneurship and firm dynamics.

You will:
- Conduct empirical research on large datasets, testing economic theories and models related to entrepreneurship, mobility, firm growth, etc.
- Work on the Stanford + Stripe Survey of Internet Entrepreneurship (https://siepr.stanford.edu/research/projects/stanford-stripe-study-internet-entrepreneurship), a survey of entrepreneurs accepting online payments. The survey will shed light on how the internet is changing entrepreneurship, how people transition into starting online businesses, what barriers prevent some groups from fully participating in these new economic opportunities, etc.
- Partner closely with Communications, Public Policy, and our executive team to create rigorous research reports and data visualizations.

The ideal candidate has:
- 6+ years experience working with and analyzing large data sets. Experience working at a technology company a plus.
- PhD in Economics or related field.
- Advanced skills in R or Python, knowledge of SQL.
- Ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal oversight, balancing attention to detail with prioritizing and delivering with tight deadlines.
