The New Zealand Work Research Institute contributes to high-quality research regarding people and work, with respect to labour market dynamics; employment relations; wellbeing and performance; diversity in the workplace; health and work; and the role of technology. Our research groups engage over 70 research experts to provide research that ticks the boxes for both academic rigour, as well as being relevant to policy makers in business, government, and the community in general.

We place emphasis on a collaborative approach and rank engagement with external stakeholders as a high priority. The Institute also provides commissioned work for a range of external clients, with recent examples including work for the United Nations Women, Productivity Commission, Ministry for Women, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Human Rights Commission. Further information on the Institute can be found through our website at: www.workresearch.aut.ac.nz.

Our current research projects focus on utilising NZ's population-wide administrative database (the Integrated Data Infrastructure) - which houses microdata about people and households, sourced from government agencies, as well as Statistics NZ surveys.

The key fields of interest are public economics; health education and labour economics; demography; and urban economics

The candidate must have:
- PhD in Economics
- Strong empirical skills and experience using large linked administrative datasets and/or large-scale surveys
- Interest in labour/health/education/urban-related topics
- Highly competent using econometric software, such as Stata, R, etc.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a team-based setting and publish high-quality applied research in labour, health, education economics and related fields. You will be working closely with the Institute Director, Professor Gail Pacheco and a core group of economists. Professor Pacheco was awarded the 2019 University Medal, which is AUT's top award, in recognition of her exceptional academic achievement. She was also the 2018 recipient of the prestigious NZIER Economics Award. This annual award seeks to highlight outstanding contributions to the advancement of economics and its applications in New Zealand.
