This is a full-time research assistant position for a highly skilled, motived individual looking to work for 1.5 years on topics in health economics, demography, and economic history.
The relevant projects will evaluate the introduction of Medicaid (means-tested public health insurance) in the 1960s on intergenerational outcomes. Tasks include (1) cleaning and managing Vital Statistics datasets; (2) collecting and coding primary source materials on Medicaid policy; (3) estimating statistical models; and (4) contributing to literature reviews about empirical research on determinants of fertility and intergenerational effects of social policy.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree. In addition, the ideal candidate will have (i), a strong quantitative background, (ii) strong computer skills including programming, and (iii) be able to work independently. Background in economics is a plus, but not necessary – we welcome candidates with strong technical backgrounds who are looking for more exposure to economics. Prior research assistant experience is strongly preferred. Excellent grades are required. The job is ideal for someone with an enthusiasm for empirical research, and the ability and interest to learn new skills and take initiative as a project develops.
