Position: Quantitative Fellowship 2021-2022
Location: 280 Park Ave (New York, NY)
Duration: Approximately 12 weeks. Part time options will be considered on a case by case basis.

Internship Opportunity
Join our 12-person quantitative research team to develop meaningful insights on global companies, macro trends, and trading execution that create value for the firm and our investors. Throughout your 12-week experience, you will partner directly with one or more of our quantitative teams (Data Science, Performance Analytics, Risk, and Trading) to work on a project that best leverages your quantitative skillset and is at the core of our research agenda. We seek analytical and creative problem solvers and provide them with robust training, mentorship and resources to apply their academic training to our most pressing and interesting research questions. You will have the opportunity to both work independently and collaborate with other intellectually curious quantitative professionals.

Responsibilities

The Quantitative Fellow will have the opportunity to develop impactful analyses and insights to be used across our research process and organization. Activities could include but are not limited to:

• Develop and deliver predictive analytics on companies, sectors, macroeconomic trends, and the market impact of trading execution
• Identify emerging trends and risks, and evaluate their potential impact
• Analyze the market microstructure and liquidity dynamics
• Optimize trading execution strategies
• Perform research and back-tests to identify opportunities for improved investment behavior and portfolio construction
• Contribute to Viking’s overall research effort by sharing information and insights across the team

Qualifications

Across the firm, we attract motivated, intellectually curious and analytically rigorous people who are passionate about learning and creating impact. The ideal candidate will possess the following traits:

• A strong performer currently enrolled in a Master’s degree or in a PhD program (3rd year and above) in one of these fields: Data Science, Economics, Finance, Statistics, and related fields
• A strong understanding of statistics and data science best practices gained from hands-on project experience
• Independence of thought and ability to carry out a research project with partial supervision
• Proficiency in Python and statistical libraries
• Sound judgment and ability to take a step back from the analysis and look at the big picture
• Efficient written and verbal communication
• Passion for research, proactive and self-motivated
• Commitment to excellence
• Working knowledge of SQL preferable
• Research experience working with time series preferable
