The Department of Economics at Swarthmore College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year. We seek candidates committed to excellence in both undergraduate teaching and scholarly research and who contribute to building diverse and inclusive communities. We especially invite applicants with research and teaching interests in international economics and/or macroeconomics.
Located on an arboretum 11 miles from Philadelphia, Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college educating students who wish to combine academic rigor with social responsibility. The standard teaching load is 2 courses per semester, in core courses and the candidate’s field of specialization, with a paid leave every fourth year and generous research support. The Economics Department is one of the strongest liberal arts departments in the country, with 13 tenure-track faculty. Qualifications include a PhD in economics or related discipline in hand by August 2022, a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds and identities, and the potential for innovative and impactful scholarship. The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching and an active research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.
