Position Description
The Department of Agricultural Economics is a large, diverse department with a broad array of programs, faculty, and students focusing on the application of economic analysis to decision problems in agriculture, natural resources, agribusiness, finance, and community economics. The department invites applications for two full time, non-tenure Instructional Assistant Professor positions (90% teaching, 10% service) with a nine month academic appointment beginning spring or fall 2022. These Academic Professional Track (APT) faculty positions provide for promotion opportunities following university guidelines and will contribute to the advancement of our undergraduate teaching programs and the enhancement of our distance learning and outreach capabilities. The Department seeks individuals from diverse backgrounds to contribute to our Department’s learning and work environment in our McAllen campus. Instructional responsibilities include developing and teaching undergraduate courses in the fields associated with the Department’s programs in agricultural economics and agribusiness. The successful candidates are expected to initially prepare and teach no less than 3 courses per semester. The candidates are also expected to provide leadership in the department along with mentoring various academic competition teams and student associations/clubs. Development and offering of courses through distance learning is expected. Regular opportunities may exist for summer teaching. Professional service, leadership, student mentoring and other scholarly activities in teaching and learning are expected.
Qualifications
PhD in agricultural Economics, economics, business or related field. Strong knowledge of the subject matter taught in undergraduate agricultural economics and agribusiness courses required. Successful candidates will have prior teaching experience and/or demonstrate strong teaching capability, excellent communication skills, and a desire to teach and mentor students. Experience in the field of instructional design and distance learning desired. Consideration will be given for previous experience in agricultural production, business management, marketing, or sales.
