Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Office of the Chief Economist for the Latin American and Caribbean Region (LCRCE) of the World Bank is seeking to recruit economists. LCRCE leads and manages region-wide analytical work and publications and contributes to defining the strategic orientation and focus of policy dialogue, analytical work, and operations in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The office maintains a high profile by representing the World Bank in global fora dealing with regional issues. It also contributes to the policy dialogue on cross-sectoral development issues and provides quality enhancement services to analytical and advisory activities (AAA) and regional lending operations. Economists are expected to contribute to all the activities of LCRCE, maintain an excellent publication record, and provide policy advice and technical expertise to colleagues in the LAC region and policy makers in client countries.

This year, LCRCE is open to applications from candidates with interests in economic development and the following areas of focus:

• Social and jobs programs
• Climate economics

LCRCE seeks candidates with (i) strong technical skills; (ii) a record of, or good prospects for, publication of high-quality original research in peer-reviewed journals; (iii) the ability to apply and communicate technical knowledge in a policy environment; (iv) excellent spoken and written proficiency in English; and (v) knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is highly desirable. We are primarily considering new PhDs and candidates with relevant post-doctoral experience.
