The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine seeks a Senior Program Officer to serve as staff director of the Roundtable on Macroeconomics and Climate-related Risks and Opportunities. The newly established roundtable is a joint project of the Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy (STEP), Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (BASC), and Board on Environmental Change and Society (BECS).

The roundtable is designed to discuss challenges associated with incorporating climate change risks and opportunities into macroeconomic models. It will focus on how to translate potential risks associated with climate change and transitions toward a carbon-neutral economy into macroeconomic modeling, including challenges associated with harmonizing data collection, and adjusting analytical approaches in macroeconomic models to accommodate unique characteristics of climate risks and opportunities.

Overview of Responsibilities
Responsible for developing and managing highly complex programs or projects. Develops program or project strategy and budget, staffing requirements and ensures the program/project meets its stated objectives. Serves as liaison among roundtable members, the National Academies, and other applicable parties. Independently supervises staff. Develops prospectuses and projects and negotiates funding with sponsors.

In addition to management and administration of complex programs and projects, the role requires advanced knowledge of intellectual and/or analytical nature. The job's primary focus is leading the roundtable on macroeconomics and climate. The person will establish work flows to ensure the effective and efficient operation of a roundtable of leading academic scholars and government officials across a variety of disciplines. Has authority to take whatever action deemed advisable or necessary, subject to institutional and divisional processes, procedures, and policies. The person is expected to provide innovative solutions to complex problems that impact program and project success. The position will reside within the U.S. Science and Innovation Policy Theme of the Policy and Global Affairs Division.

Job Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of macroeconomics and public finance, including federal tax policy, national accounting, computable general equilibrium models, integrated assessment models, and environmental economics and policy. Additional familiarity with issues of climate variability and change, climate impacts and risks analysis, climate assessment models, and climate mitigation and adaptation policy are desirable. Strong program/project management and facilitation skills. Ability to understand and share technical/scientific issues with diverse audiences.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Master's degree in economics or a related field, or equivalent knowledge.

Minimum Experience: Six years of related professional experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity.
