The Search
The Everglades Foundation seeks a talented and creative thinker to become its Chief Economist. Since 1993, the Foundation has been the leading champion for the restoration of America’s Everglades. Led by an in-house team of world-class Ph.D. scientists, the Foundation provides scientifically backed solutions to decision-makers at the federal, state, and local levels of government. Through their work, The Everglades Foundation is devoted to restoring and protecting this unique ecosystem for future generations.
The Chief Economist will join The Everglades Foundation at a time of extraordinary growth and momentum. The Chief Economist will be part of a team that emphasizes collaboration and innovation and will support The Everglades Foundation staff by conducting and directing high-leverage economic analyses that support the larger mission of the enterprise. The range of topics is broad—from the sectors of real estate to tourism to agriculture—reflecting the far-reaching influence the Everglades has on the Florida economy. The Chief Economist will ensure the work is conducted at the highest possible standard and, in turn, help other staff understand and utilize the findings to support their daily work with external stakeholders. The Chief Economist will represent The Everglades Foundation to local, regional, and national constituencies including federal and state funding agencies.
The ideal candidate for Chief Economist will possess a keen intellect, strong interpersonal and communication skills, a tenacity to succeed, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. The person needs to be a creative thinker—able to conceive novel analytical and data synthesis approaches that support the restoration and preservation of this important ecosystem.
The Chief Economist will have a terminal degree in an appropriate field, relevant communications and leadership experience, coupled with a record of distinguished scholarship and funded research in a relevant economic discipline. In addition, an appreciation of the diverse set of stakeholders who affect (and are affected by) the Everglades and its impact on Florida’s economic viability is expected. A keen understanding of federal funding mechanisms, advocacy, and Florida’s legislature and policy will be advantageous. The salary range for this position is $175,000 to $225,000
