EIG is seeking a Research Analyst to elevate its efforts to forge a more dynamic American economy. This position offers an ambitious early-to-mid career research professional a chance to accelerate their development in a position that requires and rewards initiative, creativity, and the highest quality work. The analyst will report to EIG’s Director for Research on a team of six, will interface closely with EIG’s policy, executive, and communications teams, and will perform the following duties (percentages are approximate):

40% Quantitative and qualitative economic and public policy research:

Manage, process, and analyze large datasets.
Conduct statistical analysis in Stata or equivalent and spatial analysis in ArcGIS.
Analyze studies, methods, policies and proposals across multiple issue areas.
Read, review, and build upon related research across relevant fields.

40% Research and policy writing:

Independently and jointly devise, contribute to, and produce reports, papers, policy memos, briefs, blogs, commentary, and social media content that translate data insights into actionable policy recommendations in EIG’s core issue areas and tailored to different audiences.

10% Economic data visualization:

Utilize mapping and/or data visualization software to bring data to life, including in ArcGIS.
Train in new software and capabilities as needed.

10% Outreach and network management:

Liaise directly with outside stakeholders to share EIG data and insights and build the organization’s network among key constituencies.
Respond to stakeholder and media requests for data and information as needed.

Qualifications

PhD in relevant field (e.g. economics, statistics, etc.) is preferred, but a Master’s degree will be considered for exceptional candidates.
Approximately two (2) years prior work experience in academia (a research assistantship, for example), government, think tanks, or private sector. Candidates with more experience will be considered for joining at a Senior Research Analyst level.
Demonstrated professional excellence in related subject matter (economic dynamism, entrepreneurship, business and/or labor market dynamism, regional economic analysis, spatial inequality).
Demonstrated fluency in methods of both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Deep familiarity with relevant datasets from federal statistical agencies.
Advanced data processing and statistical software skills (e.g. Stata or equivalent; GIS mapping skills preferred).
Strong portfolio of written work.
Knack for creating powerful and arresting data visualizations across a variety of different formats and softwares.
